Tips to Help You Stress Less.

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? At a time when so many of us seem to be in a permanent rush to do things, with an often self-imposed requirement to be all things to all people, it is time to stop, step back and stress less. At Chichester Pilates, we have no doubt that the gentle, restorative and mindful principles of Pilates can help combat anxiety. However, there are many other things you can do to relieve stress, keep calm and carry on to planet happiness!

In this post we have taken a little inspiration from the fabulous read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, to offer you three top tips to beat stress.

Plan to eat – The link between what you eat and your stress levels is very real. Feeling overwhelmed will often lead to less than perfect food choices, that can cause unhealthy spikes in your blood sugar levels and exacerbate the stress you are feeling. Planning ahead and shopping appropriately will lead to a more balanced diet and balanced mind! Load up on leafy greens, oily fish full of omega-3 and blissful blueberries.

Plan to Pray – Head to your place of worship, if that's where you find your peace. However, as an alternative spend a moment just being… Make the most important part of your day the pause between breaths. Meditation is an excellent way to simply be and focus on your breathing.

Plan to Love – Make sure you take the time to follow your passion, whatever that may be. Block space in your day to walk the dog, go to the gym, or simply relax with your favourite read. Whatever you enjoy doing, you should do regularly. Sounds simple? But, how many of us put the household chores and daily tasks ahead of time for ourselves?
